Pioneer Day September 24-25

Posted on Sept 30, 2009

Pioneer Day was a huge success! The students learned how the pioneers lived and survived way back in the day.  They went to 7 different stations learing how to make candels, apple butter, butter, cutting wood/making a fire, roping, corn husk dolls, and preparing a meal.

After all the work had been done, the children played games just like the children played back then. A lot of the games still are played to this day!

Indian Hills Camp director, Curly, came out and taught us all some new songs and old songs that the Pioneer's use to sing and told stories around the campfire.

After the blessing, we all ate a delcious meal of "Game Stew", which consisted of vegetables and broth along side sweet watermellon and a dinner roll.

By the time dinner was over, it was just about time for bed. Everybody was plumb tired from the day's activities.   All returned to their tents for restful sleep.

The next morning, bright and early, the day greeted us with a warm breakfast of apple butter and pancakes!

Camp pulled out around 8:30 the next morning!

Thanks to all the volunteers who made this day a success!!
